Two people were arrested after an argument over cheering during a youth softball game escalated into a fight that left a man unconscious at an Imperial Park sports field, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Sugar Land police responded around 7:32 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, to Imperial Park, located at 7750 E. U.S. 90A, after receiving a report of an assault near baseball field No. 4.
According to the affidavit, Kiarious Hall told officers he was attending a softball game to cheer for his daughter’s team when a man identified confronted him about his cheering. Hall said the man told him he could not cheer that way just before the players were about to pitch.
Hall said he continued cheering while arguing with the man. A second man then approached, and the three continued arguing.
During the confrontation, the second man allegedly poked Hall in the chest. Hall told police he punched the second man in the face once, causing him to fall, strike his head on the sidewalk and lose consciousness.
Investigators reviewed cellphone video recorded by a witness. According to the affidavit, the footage showed Hall holding a metal water bottle with a handle in his right hand before swinging it and striking the man in the face. He then fell to the ground and became unconscious.
The affidavit states that Hall was also seen swinging the water bottle at the first man before the two became involved in a physical fight. Hall, the first man and Jazmine Hall were seen exchanging punches before the confrontation moved into a nearby bush, where bystanders broke up the fight.
Police said witnesses appeared to favor people they knew from their respective teams, making the video footage and physical evidence important in determining how the confrontation escalated.
Investigators determined that Jazmine Hall became involved in the fight by throwing punches to assist her husband, according to the affidavit.
Kiarious Hall and Jazmine Hall were taken into custody and transported to the Fort Bend County Jail without incident.
Jazmine Hall was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury. Jazmine Hall was identified as a Lamar Consolidated Independent School District employee.
The affidavit provided did not specify a charge against Kiarious Hall.
The affidavit does not establish the full extent of the second man’s injuries.
